JOSEPH FILIPPI WINERY TO CULTIVATE A PRIVATE VINEYARD AT THE VILLAS AT MONTE SAN SAVINO
Etiwanda, CA – The Villas at Monte San Savino, a new home community like no other in Southern California, will soon add to its distinction with the cultivation of a private vineyard within the neighborhood. The Villas are located in the historic district of Etiwanda and feature an offering of 22 exclusive courtyard-oriented homes of Italian-inspired design nestled within a gated Tuscan village setting.
Planting of the new vineyard is scheduled to begin within the next 60 days. According to Gino L. Filippi, fourth generation vintner, of Joseph Filippi Winery, “we will be planting Primativo Zinfandel, an excellent variety that originates from old European stock, but which has been cultivated in the Rancho Cucamonga area for 100 years. In fact, most people are unaware that the first vines in this region were planted in 1838, making it one of the oldest wine producing regions in California.”
Arbors and viewing benches by the vineyard will give home owners a fine vantage point. Families will be kept up-to-date on the cultivation schedule and will also receive personal invitations to J. Filippi Winery events.
“We expect a small yield within the next four to five years,” said Gino, in explaining the expertise required for fruitful cultivation of the vine. “The first growth grapes will be removed. This thinning process is essential for the vines to become strong and healthy.”
“By year five, we expect to see a substantial yield of three to five tons of grapes per acre,” said Gino of this benchmark period in the cultivation process. “One ton of grapes yields approximately 140 gallons of juice (for approximately 696 bottles of wine). Within six months to one year of barrel aging the wine will be ready for tasting.”
Joseph Filippi Winery, revered for its premium handcrafted wines, has received more than 200 awards for winemaking excellence over the past 30 years. At their historic winery property in Rancho Cucamonga, plans will soon be unveiled for 30 artists’ live-work lofts and two wine-related restaurants.
